Opinions, what do you think about this.?

I am currently attending my local community college and am looking for schools to apply to this spring. I have two instate options one is 4 hours away and is excellent academically and the other is not so good but is 30 minutes away. My parents/family said I could go to what ever instate school that I want but are now acting extremely skeptical/critical of my primary chose. They are also questioning my major (geology which I researched and is what I want to do) and are saying things like are you sure you want to do that you might have to go to Texas to get a job. I feel they are trying to manipulate me and are trying to make me get a stupid (in my opinion) major and/or go to a bad school for that. Should I just ignore them about this is really starting to get me angry. I feel like I am being smothered and my family is to clingy. Any opinions are welcome did/does anyone else have parents/family like this how did you deal with it.
