Do most people in USA have family showing up on Memorial Day for a barbecue in their garden?

It is common for American families and friends to have Barbeques on Memorial Day. I would contact whoever you are working for to see if it is ok to come and work. Sometimes, they will appreciate it if you come early before their party. Others will not approve. Just ask.
